Toy castle - Mick Burgoyne

From Mick Burgoyne

This is just to say thank you for taking the time to design and post the details for the toy castle. I don't have a laser cutter so printed the plans out to use with a scroll saw. I had to increase the size slightly as my ply was 5.5mm, so after a lot of adjustments on the computer I managed to get them all printed. Given the printer is A4 only, some were printed in 4 pieces and stuck together, which was tricky but it all worked in the end.

It was for our grandchildren this Christmas and has already been a great hit. Our Daughter-in-law made some model 'guards' from wooden pegs and the kids really love it.

Once again many thanks for your work.

Mick Burgoyne

Casting wall sculpture

I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the great 3D models you've made available.  I've attached some pictures of a project I've completed using one of them ("Ornamental 3d rosette").

I started by printing the model in two different sizes, scaling the Z axis up a bit.  I then used these prints as patterns to make sand-casting molds, which I then poured in aluminum from my home built foundry.  I demonstrated this with your patterns at a recent Makerfaire in Colorado Springs.

I recently took some of these castings (after cutting off the sprues, etc.) and created the wall hanging sculpture shown in the final photo for my wife's Christmas gift.

You're welcome to add these pictures to your "Showroom" page.

I've also created an inverse of this pattern which my wife may use to create ceramic flowers in her pottery studio which we may incorporate as well - sorry, I don't have any picture of that.

Sand casting mold made with the 3D printed pattern, Pouring molten aluminum into the prepared greensand mold. Greensand is a mix of sand, bentonite clay and water. The mold taken in half with the casting still in the sand. The raw casting broken out of the sand. The casting with the sprues cut off and other finishing work done.  A sculpture created with several of the castings, as well as copper wire, hammered copper leaves and pallet lumber.

Celtic pattern - Damian from Cheltenham

Hi. I'm Damian from Cheltenham (UK).
I've just recently bought my first scroll saw.
Attached is a picture of my first attempt at making something - one of your Celtic zoomorphic designs.
I used 4mm ply, cutting each piece individually so I could paint before assembly.  No doubt I'll get better with a bit more practice! Great site for picking up patterns to practice, thanks!

Rocking airplane - Mr. Ryan Melton

Thank you for posting the plans for the rocking airplane.  I used your plan with some modifications to build a couple of rocking toys to give as Christmas gifts for my nieces.   I modified several aspects of the plan, mainly to shrink the size of the rockers/wings. These things take up a lot of room.  Thanks again for the plans!

Ernesto Che Guevara - Laser cut

Hi, I built my own CNC machine a couple of years back and added a laser cutting head just last year. I documented the build on my website so I know just how much time and effort you must have put into providing all the information, links and photo’s etc.

I attach a photo of “Che”, this was laser cut from your GIF drawing using two different veneers subsequently glued to a MDF backing and then fine sanded and matt varnished.

Airplane swing

Swing built by his grand-father grampy_G from part of a free detailed design found on the Craftsmanspace website.

The airplane swing shown in this video clip is a simple modification of this FREE set of plans. The wings, propeller, and tail are to scale from the plan's patterns, but I dropped the rockers and hung the plane with strong chains attached to a frame above where the airplane swing operates...

Pen etching

Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for sharing your patterns

Rocking airplane - Christmas gift

Thanks for posting the rocking airplane plans. I used your plan with some modifications to mounting to allow the plane to be adjusted for height off the platform. I made this for my Grandson as a Chrismas gift. Thanks Again!

This plane was made from 3/4" thick pine. I used three(3) pieces of 3/4" pine for the body of the plane.

I modified the plane mount, using 7/8" dowels set into a 3" dowell. The 3" dowells were mounted with carriage bolts on the frame and on the plane's lower wing. This allows me to adjust the height of the plane off of the base as the child grows.

Finished biplane toy project

Just thought I would like to send you a photo of the biplane made from your plans on the website. Thanks for such detail plans they are great to work with and very have very good detail. The only addition I made was to add the under carriage to the design from the second biplane. Incidentally I am now making that one to half scale so that it can be hung from the ceiling.
